Look what we have here. Got a little excited when this showed up this afternoon. Now it’s not the much anticipated Galaxy S II phone itself, it’s one nice Samsung Galaxy II branded telescope with stand. Wish I had some more info but this is it for now folks.

After a series of test builds and release candidates  across several target devices, the first stable release of CyanogenMod-6.0 has officially been released! This ROM is based on Android 2.2, and is currently available of the following target devices:

• Google Nexus One
• HTC Aria
• HTC Dream / HTC Magic
• HTC Desire
• HTC Evo
• HTC Hero CDMA
• HTC Hero GSM 
• HTC Incredible
• HTC MyTouch 3G Slide
• Motorola Droid

There are surprises all over. Cyanogen and Team Douche have really worked hard to bring these flavors to our devices. Hats off Team Douche!

CM6 boasts a few new features and tweaks. Some features include ADWLauncher 1.1.4 which boasts some impressive add-ons such as the group catalog as well as improved UI settings. Sound and audio focus settings have been added to the CyanogenMod Settings menu and the locale now supports more languages.

Devices running RCs or nightly builds can easily update to CM-6 with ROM Manager or head over to Cyanogen’s forums for their flavors of CM6.

So you’ve rooted your shiny new Samsung Vibrant, messed around with mounting the system partition, installed a few themes or updates, and, for some reason or another, it won’t boot or is stuck in a boot loop. You’ve been staring at the “Samsung Vibrant” screen for ten minutes and nothing has happened. Yeah, it happens, the annoying “soft brick.” Luckily,  there is something we can do to return your phone back to its stock, unrooted state. This procedure is equally useful if you just want to restore your phone back to its factory default state, literally as it was when you purchased the device.

Developer JustAnotherCrowd (also known as JAC) has provided instructions on how to use the below downloads. Download all three files and extract ODIN and the 512 PIT file into a directory with the tar file. You must also install the USB drivers if you don’t already have them installed.

Note: Samsung’s software package ODIN is only available on the Windows platform, sorry Linux and Mac users. You can always make a Virtual PC using one of the many Virtual Machines applications.

T959 (US T-Mobile version of the Galaxy S) Firmware that can be flashed through ODIN to restore all partitions to the way your phone was shipped to you.
WARNING!!! THIS WILL WIPE ANY DATA ON YOUR DEVICE, IT WILL REPLACE YOUR BASEBAND, KERNEL, RECOVERY AND OS.

INSTRUCTIONS:

1.Your Device must be in DOWNLOAD mode to use ODIN.

2.Get your phone into DOWNLOAD mode by turning off your phone and plugging it in. Wait for the green charging screen. Hold Volume Up, Volume down, and Power. Let go of power as soon as the screen goes black.  A yellow digging Android should be on the screen. This may take a few tries to get it right. (Alternate Method if you have ADB access : use the command ‘adb reboot download’).

3. Launch ODIN, then disconnect/reconnect your phone via USB. It should then say a COM port right under top-right box. (Issues detecting your device on a COM port? Try connecting your phone before starting ODIN, and don’t do the disconnect\reconnect. It’s a finicky application.)

4.In ODIN, load each file with its corresponding field..PIT,PDA,CSC etc. (In this case we just use the PDA and PIT).

5.Don’t check anything else, the other two boxes should be checked by default (Auto Reboot and Reset Time)

6.Hit “start.” Be patient!

NOTE: COM3 worked fine for me. COM should not matter as long as you are using the correct drivers.

Finally we get some U.S love from Samsung firmwares.

For those looking for the Nandroid method, it is in the post below but only recovers system, data, and cache.Not your kernel/recovery or BASEBAND/RADIO (Modem.bin)

We’re talking root access, not custom ROMs just yet. But it’s a big step. You’ll need to be handy with the command line (and if you can copy and paste, you should be), and read the instructions, because everything on the Droid X will have root access after this. If you just got your hands on a new Samsung Galaxy S Vibrant or Captivate, you may have noticed some GPS issues. Samsung reportedly has as well, and may address this in a coming OTA fix.  In the meantime, it’s not hard to fix the problem yourself — provided you go slow and follow the instructions, which are detailed after the break.  [Xda-Developers via Intomobile]

• Step 1 — Open menu > settings > Location & Security.  Uncheck the box next to “Use Wireless Networks”
• Step 2 — Open the dialer (the phone button) and enter the following: *#*#1472365#*#* .  Then press “send” to open the Vibrant’s LbsTestMode menu.
• Step 3 — In the LBSTestMode menu, press “Application Settings” and change “Operation Mode” to “MS Based.”
• Step 4 — In the LBSTestMode menu, find “SUPL/CP Settings” and change the SERVER & PORT to supl.google.com and port 7276 (DO NOT use www. in front of supl !)
• Step 5 — Reboot your phone.
• Step 6 — Open menu > settings > Location & Security.  Check the box next to “Use Wireless Networks”

If you want to reverse these changes, the original specs are:

Operation Mode: Standalone
SERVER: www.spirent-lcs.com
PORT: 7275

This should make locating and locking on to GPS satellites faster, and make locations services more accurate.  Just take your time, and follow the directions closely.  And no, this won’t affect your warranty or need root.
